The Sleep2BWell Research Study

About the Study

BWell4Life is a 4-week program about living a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Sleep2BWell is a similar program that adds additional sleep health education sessions to the standard BWell4Life program. Half of the participating community sites will teach the BWell4Life program, while the other half will teach Sleep2BWell. After they fully consent to the study, participants will be told which program they will receive. 

Who is eligible to join Sleep2BWell?

Any adult who:

is 20 years of age or older that can provide informed consent 

speaks English and/or Spanish

have borderline high or known high blood pressure

(the study team will measure this to confirm)

Why should I join?

Living a healthy life is super important if you want to avoid getting sick from diseases like heart problems, cancer, or diabetes. Living healthily means eating good foods, moving your body, and making sure you sleep well. You need to work on eating better, getting active, and sleeping well because they all connect. For instance, if you don't sleep enough, you might end up eating too much or choosing junk food, which can then mess up your sleep. It's like a circle where one bad thing leads to another. But if you start making small changes, like choosing healthier foods, doing some exercise, and sleeping better, it can really make a big difference in how you feel and live.

What is involved?

Participants will be assigned by chance to either the BWell4Life or Sleep2BWell study group. Participants assigned to BWell4Life will attend a 90-minute group session weekly for four weeks. You will learn how to eat healthier and be more physically active in this group. Participants assigned to Sleep2BWell will attend a 90-minute group session weekly for six weeks. You will learn to eat healthier, be more physically active, and sleep better in this group. You will create weekly health goals in both groups and do group cooking and physical activities.
